COVID Missionary Chronicles: Primer Semana En El GANM

Hola a todos!!

What a crazy week this has been! I have so many exciting adventures to share with y'all!

When I landed in Atlanta on Monday Afternoon, I was met by President Harris (my mission president) and two awesome sister missionaries! We drove to the Stake center in Lilburn, GA and we had trainings and some good food. I also finally got to hug Hermana Robert's, who was in my MTC District. On Tuesday I met my trainer. President handed each of the "greenies" an index card with some info and sent us into a room full of trainers and told us to find our matching trainer. I must have done something right, because I matched with Hermana Grover!! She's such an awesome missionary!! She's only been out for 3 months and is already a trainer, which means president thinks very highly of her. I can't wait to continue working with and learning from her. We share an apartment with a trio companionship of sisters as well. Two of them are trainers and one of the sisters came in with me on Monday. Their names are: Sister Robertson, Sister Abbot, and Sister Rodgers.

My area is in Cumming GA, in the Coal Mountain Zone. Our zone is huge!! It stretches up into North Carolina, and get this...Hermana Grover and I are the only 2 Spanish missionaries in the whole zone!!! Totally wild!! There is one Spanish Branch in the whole Zone and I feel so blessed to be apart of it. The Branch is called the Azalea Branch and it's comprised of like 25 members. It's way different than my Home ward, but I already love the members so much! There are like 7 little kids in the Branch and they LOVE the missionaries. They all came running up to us after church yesterday and were asking us questions and giving us hugs. So sweet!!! Nobody in the Branch has any music knowledge so Hermana Grover is the Branch pianist and I'm the Branch Chorister haha

We have two awesome Friends who are progressing and it makes me so happy to be apart of their conversions! We are teaching this one lady named Luz and we will hopefully get her on date for baptism this coming week! Our other friends name is Ever. He lived outside our area and was preparing to be baptized. Then he moved into our area and when we taught him this week, he said he needs more time before he is baptized. I feel really blessed to have the opportunity to teach him as well. Let me tell ya, the work her in Georgia is really moving and I feel so freaking blessed to be her.

Alright, shout out to my mom who told me to include more funny/dumb moments in my emails. I hope y'all get a kick out of this Haha. So we were at a service project and we were helping this guy named Emilio move into his house. Hermana Grover and I were there with our Zone Leaders and one of them, Elder Yancy has really good Spanish. Were we working on scrubbing some paint off the floor and Emilio came in and said "Hermana Adán (cause that's how the Hispanics say my name) quieres una coca?" I sat there for a second not having a clue what he had said. I asked him to repeat it and he said again "quieres una coca?". By this point Elder Yancy was laughing at me. I was still so confused. I asked me to repeat it 1 more time and he did then held up a 24 pack of Coke. He pulled out a can, put it in my hand and said "esto es una coca". A huge learning experience because I learned my new favorite word in Spanish. Haha

My power scripture for this week is in 1 Nephi 7:17. When we first got to the Mission, President Harris talked about the enabling power of the atonement. We talked about how God isn't going to take away our hard times, but he will give us the strength to get through them. This scripture is a great example of that!!

Well everyone, that's all I've got for this week. I hope y'all have a great next week! Te amo!!
