COVID Missionary Chronicles: Puede Repitir Por Favor?
Hola Hola!!!
I hope that everyone is doing amazing! I hope y'all had great works and are feeling good about everything!! We had a birthday this week!! My cousin Madeleine Hall!!! Happy Birthday!!
So, this week was just crazy all together. From service, to lessons, our first member meal, Hermana Grover's phone issues...we had a roller coaster. I'll try and hit the highlights so I can keep this a relatively normal length Haha.
So to start, Hermana Grover and I set a goal to do 10 hours of service this week and I think we hit it, which is awesome!! With Covid and everything, finding people has become extremely difficult. One of the best ways we have found to meet new people is just by going out and serving and talking to all the Hispanics that we see! We do service all over the area and it is actually super helpful because it allows us to talk to all kinds of people as well as fulfill our missionary purpose of serving others.
Lessons were kind of crazy this week. We had two lessons with Luz. She is kind of at this weird stand-still spot where she knows all of the doctrines, she just needs to start acting on them. For example, we had 8 new people lined up to be at church yesterday, (which is like unheard of in this area) and they all cancelled on us last minute. It was really sad, but the one thing all missionaries learn very quickly is that our words can not overpower other people's agency. As hard as it is, we just have to keep inviting them, having faith that the Lord has got this!
We also had our first member meal this week! It was a very humbling experience! We are with the Revas family from our Branch. Long story short, this family has had a very difficult life and they are just trying to get by. Hermano Revas works sometimes 15 hour days doing random jobs around the area to support his young family. They have 3 young kids (7, 4, 2) and they have a new baby coming in July. When we got to their house, I watched as Hermana Revas served Sister Grover and I and then served what was left to her little kids. It wasn't a lot, but as I watched the kids sitting on the floor (because they don't have a big enough table) they were so grateful for that little rice and beans they got to eat that night. I was trying to hold back tears as each little kid thanked their mom for the food and then ran off to play. It really opened my eyes. This little family is making due with what they have. It breaks my heart to see them with so little, but at they same time there could not be a happier family! They are a huge example of humility to me, and that meal really gave me a different perspective.
And my laughable moment of the week...it actually occurred at this member dinner. The little kids wanted to see the pictures on my phone and they got to the ones of my caballo (horse). They got very excited and started asking me all kinds of questions about Tanga. Then, they asked me what her favorite food is and without thinking, I told these kids that my horse's favorite food was arroz (rice). Thinking back, I wasn't too far off because technically rice is a grain, but I still got a lot of laughs from the family haha.
Alright everybody, that's all I've got for this week! I hope that everyone has an amazing upcoming week! Look for the hand of the Lord in your lives and I promise you'll see mighty miracle! Love y'all!!
Hermana Adams
P.S. if you read this far you're a real one!! I have been assigned to give my first talk in my Branch next week. Stay tooned for my next email because I'm sure it'll be an adventure lol
