COVID Missionary Chronicles: "At This Point, We Could Add Movers To The Post-Mission Job Resume"- Sister Porter

¡Hola a todos!

How was everyone's week? We have a couple of shout-outs this week. My aunt Amber and cousin Hiram both had birthdays this week!! Happy birthday guys!! Also, one of my really good friends got sealed to her husband this weekend!! A big congratulations to Ben and Emily Skousen!!

Alright y'all this week was an interesting one. We didn't really teach and we only handed out one copy of the Book of Mormon, but the Lord needed us elsewhere this week.

On Tuesday we had exchanges and I was paired with Sister Porter! Seriously the best lol! I love her so much and it was a huge blessing to get to spend the day working with her. While we were together we taught a lesson to a girl named Chanel (who actually happens to be friends with McKinley Homan, so I got to see her again). The lesson went super well! We taught about repentance and how repentance and forgiveness is a positive thing and a gift from God. Also while we were on exchanges I met a lady named Eleanor...here's where the fun begins lol.

Eleanor is an old lady who the other Sisters have been teaching. She lives in the same apartment complex as my District leader and the other two sisters in the Zone. Eleanor has been trying to move up to Dawsonville for a while and finally decided to go through with it. She asked the missionaries to come and help her move and of course we all agreed (the 9 of us right around this area). We pull up on Tuesday ready to move and when we got there, we realized this was going to be a long job. Eleanor is an actual hoarder....like I'm not even joking. In total us 9 missionaries were in and out of her house all week long. Good news is that we were finally able to finish that job and Eleanor is safe in Dawsonville. As tiring as that job was, it was actually super fun as well just to be spending time with the other missionaries and serving those around us.

The day after we finished Eleanor's move, Hermana Lambert and I get a call from the Relief Society President in the Coal Mountain ward. She said that there is an older sister in the ward who also needs help preparing for a move. She asked us if we could go over and help with her yard sale on Saturday morning. We convinced Hermana Flanary and Sister Porter to come help us and we headed over to the Coffe's house. They are actually a super cute family. The yard sale was pretty much being ran already, so we just priced things and carried things from the basement to the garage, but it was good work.

And finally on Saturday night, we went with Hermana Flanary and Sister Porter to help move another lady who they're teaching. Her name is Trish and she is actually moving to West Palm, Florida! They have a pretty big house, and the other sisters had already been over a couple of times to help. This next Tuesday, they should be getting the truck and then we'll go back over to help them get it all loaded.

So yeah, we definitely spent this week doing a different kind of missionary work. Service is something that I've grown to love so much on my mission. I live the feelings that I get when I see the look of joy on the face of a person who so desperately needed help. Getting to see that multiple times this week makes up for how sore and exhausted we all are haha.

As we've started into the Summer here in Georgia, there have been some changes going on. For one, it's hot...like really hot lol. It's still not as hot as Florida but when you're moving boxes and stuff in the middle of the day you start to feel the heat just sink into you haha. The change I'm actually excited for is that fireflies are coming out!! Fireflies always amaze me and it's been just this week that we've started to see them.

The other night, after we helped Trish move, we were all sitting outside reading together from the Book of Mormon. The fireflies were starting to come out, the sun was setting, and I had a pretty powerful experience. This week was difficult for multiple reasons, all of our planned lessons fell through this week, we didn't have a bunch of time to go finding, and the baptism of Rosemary Rivas got pushed back as well. However, as I was sitting down with the other Sister Missionaries who I love so much and teaching Trish out of the Book of Mormon, I just felt so much Love come over me. Love for this place, love for these people, love for my fellow missionaries, and love for this great work. It was super powerful and I'm thankful that I got to experience this.

Alright y'all,  that's all I've got for this week. If y'all ever need movers after I get home, I've the best crew out there haha. I hope y'all have a fantastic next week! Let me know how I can pray for you!
