Missionary Chronicles: Thank You Russell
¡Hola a todos!
How was everyone's week? I hope it was amazing, and that you all witnessed miracles in your lives! Our birthday shout-out this week goes to my cousin Melanie! Happy Birthday girl! I hope it was a great one!!
Alright y'all nothing too much happend this week, but I'll go through some of the highlights.
We didn't teach any lessons this week because the same guy cancelled on us twice...we did everything we could to get him to church yesterday but he still didn't come. It was super disappointing, but we'll keep trying.
On that note, I also gave my second ever talk in Spanish yesterday. I had about a 24 hour notice, but it went well. I spoke on the 5 principles of the gospel (basically lesson 3 out of PMG lol). It went well and I feel good about it. I definitely felt a lot more comfortable than the first time I spoke in Spanish lol.
This week we tried to give out a Book of Mormon to a guy at one of our larger Tiendas. He was a worker and we talked to him for a while. He was super surprised to hear us speaking Spanish and that's what struck up the conversation. After talking for about 15 minutes, we offered him a Book of Mormon. He told us no, but we have him our number and stuff so who knows, maybe we'll hear from him again.
We had two people show up to English class which was a step up from last week lol. Before English class us and the Elders had dinner with the Avila family from the Branch! They are super cool and they are some of our best friends haha. They have a daughter in Young Women's, a Deacon, and a son who just got baptized! They're a super cool family!
I also got to participate in my first Branch Volleyball night. What nobody told me was that my less than adequate volleyball skills would be no match for these Hispanics who LIVE for these Branch Volleyball nights. Thankfully I have Hermana Crow who said she'd try and help me get better. Y'all...I embarrassed myself in front of the whole Branch
Hermana Crow and I are also moving apartments in a couple weeks due to a less than desirable roach problem in our current apartment. We've been trying all week to find moving boxes that we wouldn't have to pay for. Yesterday, we finally decided to ask on Facebook. This guy named Russell messaged us and was like "y'all come take all my boxes". We are now good friends with Russell and we have moving boxes lol.
For the spiritual thought this week I wanted to share some thoughts on a devotional I listened to this week. A couple months back, President Holland gave a missionary devotional all about the Spirit. I had the opportunity to rewatch and study this devotional this past week and it was really cool! One part that I really liked was when he was talking about the necessity of always having the Spirit with us. He said something along the lines of "I wouldn't do anything to affend my earthly companion (sister Holland), why would I want to do anything to affend my spiritual companion (holy ghost)." I just thought that was super cool. We as members of the church should do our best to strive to always have the companionship of the Holy Ghost! As missionaries, we can't do this work without him!
Well y'all, that's all I have for this week! I promise next week will be more eventful haha. I hope everyone has a fantastic upcoming week! Let me know if there is anything I can do for y'all! Thanks for all of the support! Love y'all!!
