Missionary Chronicles: La Misionera De Miami??
¡Hola a todos!
How was this week for y'all? I hope you were able to see the small miracles everyday. We have two birthday shout-outs this week! The first goes to my trainer Herrrmana Grover and the second goes to my girl Emily Skousen!! Happy birthday to both of y'all!!
I know I said my Pday was going to be switched this week, but they moved it to next week. So next week you'll get my email on Tuesday.
This week was kind of all over the place. We had a bunch going on and we stayed pretty busy which was good.
On Monday and Tuesday we had exchanges. Exchanges are always an adventure and this time around was no different. I was paired with Sister Leonard and we stayed here in the Spanish area. The only problem is that Sister Leonard does not speak spanish lol. However, this opened the door for me to see a pretty mighty miracle on Monday night. We had accidentally planned a Spanish lesson on the night of our exchanges. Hermana Crow asked if I wanted to move it and then said "actually you've got this". I was so terrified!! Teaching in Spanish is stressful enough, let alone teaching an entire lesson by myself. However, we went through with it and after a week of lesson planning and many prayers for the gift of tongues, I'm happy to report that the lesson went surprisingly well! I was able to teach and answer her questions totally in Spanish. A huge miracle!!
We also had our big kids camp this week. It was a three day endeavor but it went super well! The main worry was that we weren't going to have anybody show up, but everyday we had at least four kids there which was awesome! We taught a quick lesson at the beginning each day and then just played sports and games for the rest! It was super fun!
Now to explain the email title haha. Y'all remember our friend Lee who I talked about last week? Well she's doing great!! We had a lesson with her this week as well and it was interesting. She's 86 years old and she's from Cuba...both of those things combined = Spanish trouble for us haha. In all honesty though, we love her. The funniest thing though is what she refers to me as. I told I'm from Florida and since then she calls me "La misionera de Miami". I'm definitely not from Miami but we find it hilarious that she calls me that, so it's all good lol.
Our big miracle on the week happens yesterday! We had 5 of our friends at church! That has never happened to me or to this area and it was a huge blessing! I'm so excited to keep working with these amazing people.
Alright y'all I wasn't sure I was going to include this part in my email because it's still pretty raw for me, but I feel like I need to share this experience. On Friday afternoon, Hermana Crow and I were here in the apartment doing language study. The phone starts ringing, and it's President Harris. He asks to talk to me and basically tells me that he just got off the phone with my parents and that he wants me to call home as soon as I can. I get off the phone with President and I call my parents. They broke the news to me that they had to put our horse Tanga down on Thursday night. I had no idea what to do or how to feel at that moment...it was super unexpected and it caught me really off guard. When I got off the phone with my parents, I did the only thing I could think of, I knelt down and I prayed. I offered a prayer of gratitude to Heavenly Father, thanking him for allowing me to grow up with Tanga and for the huge blessing she was in my life. After that prayer I walked back into our living room and was quickly reminded of how grateful I am to have Hermana Crow as my companion. She has been so loving and so supportive over these last couple days. I'm also incredibly thankful to have the Priesthood in my life! We were able to get in contact with a couple of Elders from my district and I was able to get a blessing. And lastly, that night we had one of the most beautiful sunsets I've seen! I've realized this weekend that I have a lot of things to be grateful for. Even in the hardest times, we can find things in our lives to be grateful for and it helps us keep our focus on the things that we do have!
That's all I've got for this week! I hope this next upcoming week is great for y'all! Let me know how I can pray for you! Keep moving forward with faith! I love y'all!
