Missionary Chronicles: Rainbow After The Storm
¡Hola a todos! I hope y'all had a great week! Our birthday shout-out this week goes to Sister Caceres!! I love you so much! I hope your birthday was a amazing!!
This week was definitely a slower one for us. We spent most of our time knocking on the doors of our grey dots, and it wasn't as successful this week. We're trying to find other creative ways to go about our finding, but it's proving to be a little difficult. Finding in an English area is way different than my previous Spanish areas, so I'm having to start over from square one when it comes to finding.
We were able to teach two lessons this week though! Our first lesson was with Angie, our recent convert. We've started doing the new-member lessons with her and they're going very well. For those of you who don't know, when you begin the new-member lessons we try and have the ministering Brother and Sister lead them because we as missionaries are trying to pass the investigator over to the ward. We still attend all of the lessons, but the members are the ones who actually teach them. Angie's ministers are Brother and Sister Foye! They're super cool and they're doing an amazing job with these lessons! We went over the Restoration again and it was super cool to hear Angie's testimony on how she knows the gospel is true!
Now this is were the email title plays in. The second lesson we taught this week was for our friend Guinevere! I don't know if I've told y'all about here yet but I'll do it anyway lol. Guinevere is 10 years old and her mom is a less-active memeber. Her parents are separated and her dad is super opposed to the church. However, Sister Ortega (Guinevere's mom) really wants Guinevere to be a part of the church and be baptized. Because of the legal aspect of things, Sister Ortega has "final say" on religious matters, so we've started going back into their home to teach Guinevere the lessons again. Well I am extremely excited to report that Guinevere accepted an invitation to be baptized! She will be baptized on September 25th and Sister Christman and I are beyond excited! I would ask that y'all keep Guinevere and the Ortega family in your prayers. Just because her father legally doesn't have a say in whether or not she's baptized, doesn't mean that he's not going to try and convince Guinevere otherwise. I'm so thankful that I got to experience this rainbow after the storm that was this past week!
For the spiritual thought this week, I want to share another insight I had from reading my book, " Trusting Jesus" by Elder Holland. One quote I loved from this past week was, "So life has it's oppositions and it's conflicts, and the gospel of Jesus Christ has answers and assurances". I love this quote so much and I find it to be very applicable during this time. As a missionary, I am not aware of the craziness going on in the world around me. However, every now and then a memeber will fill us in on what's been happening and sometimes it's a little scary and discouraging. This quote brought me a lot of piece this week in particular. I just want to take a second and share my testimony, that I know this church is the true church. I know that the men who the Lord has called to lead it are truly called of God and qualified to head his church. These men like all of us are human, but the Lord has chosen them at this time. I love, support, and sustain each one of them. This world will get messier and messier as we get closer to the Second Coming of our Savior, but I promise that peace and rest are found in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I promise that as we heed the words of his Prophet and Apostles on this earth, we will be kept safe from the raging storms that are yet to come.
Alright y'all, that's all I've got for this week. I hope this next week is a great one for y'all! Let me know how I can pray for y'all this week! Love y'all!!
