Missionary Chronicles: Heaven Better Look Like This
Hola a todos!
I hope y'all had a great week! It's been 9 days since my last email so I have a lot to fill y'all in on haha.
For starters, storm cleanup has slowed down at this point but last week was kind of crazy! Everyday we were out helping someone. It was amazing but also extremely exhausting. Last Tuesday we went over to help Brother Talerico with more of his cleanup. Because he had so much water in his house, he needed his floors pulled up. Brother Talerico had hard wood floor that was glued down to the cement below it. So basically we spent 6 hours on Tuesday and another 3 on Wednesday, on our hands and knees, with only hammers and chisels pulling up that hardwood. My body is only starting to forgive me for that one hahaha but it was awesome to be able to get some hard work done and to help Brother Talerico.
We also had a pretty amazing experience last Saturday. We were able to be in the temple as pur friend Angie did baptisms for the dead for the first time. This was an experience that I will never forget! As we walked into the temple, Anhie was immediately in awe at how beautiful it is. She leaned over to me and said, "Heaven better look like this". She was even more shocked when I told her it'll probably look better. Sister Christman and I had the opportunity to be witnesses as Anbie was baptized I proxy for her Great-grandmother. When Angie came out of the water she started crying which of course got Sister Christman and I crying. It was a suoer tender moment and I am so thankful that I got to be in the temple with her for this special experience!
And the last big thing that happened this week was exchanges yesterday. For the first time in 6 weeks I got to be in a Spanish area!! I worked with Hermana Hales and Hermana Hilmo. It was honestly so much fun! I have definitely missed my Spanish areas and all of the things that go along with being Spanish so it was fun to have that back yesterday. We went to an Old Folks Home and played cards with some of the residents there which was too much fun! All of their individual personalities made for a very interesting game of UNO haha. We also taught a lesson yesterday to an inactive family who the sisters are trying to get back to church. We went over and read the Book of Mormon with the kids and it was super sweet! Their kids love the Book of Mormon so it was suoer cute to see them so happy to be reading from it with us. As we were walking out of that lesson, Hermana Hales commented on how much my Spanish has improved since the last time that we worked together (March 23, 2021). That really made me feel good knowing that all of the work I've been putting in is paying off. I think the biggest miracle that I noticed yesterday was the fulfillment of a promise that President Harris gave me. In my last interview he promised me that I have a diligent language study everyday, then when the time comes for me to move back to a Spanish area my Spanish will not be a burden for me. I took his challenge and I saw the results yesterday. Some of the things that I've been studying this past transfer were brought to my remeberance without every being practiced in a conversation. I was able to read and explain things clearly in Spanish without much hesitation at all. My Spanish is better than it was 6 weeks ago which is a huge miracle in my life. The Gift of Tongues is so real! The Lord brought my Spanish back to my remeberance when I needed it and it was amazing!
As my little spiritual thought, I want to invite y'all to start thinking and praying about a question you can take with you into General Conference. We've been challenging each of our investigators to do the same! I promise that it will be so much more of an uplifting experience as we each go in with a question and listen intently to find the answer!
Alright y'all, that's all I've got for this week! I hope the rest of this week is great for y'all! I can't wait to fill y'all in on how Guinevere's baptism goes!! I love y'all!!
