Missionary Chronicles: Always Come Prepared
Hola a todos! Cómo han estado?
This has been a good week with some great experiences! I'm excited to fill y'all in!
Last Monday, we went on a hike with the Portuguese Elders. Recently we've been visiting a lot of the old Civil War sites in the area. This particular hike to us to the ruins of an old Paper Mill that got burned down during the Civil War. They were printing confederate currency, so Sherman burned it down as he made his was to Atlanta. It was a pretty cool place!
We did a lot of service again this week. We helped a couple of our members get ready for a big yardage and we helped Brother Terry out on his property again. Those days with Brother Terry are going to be mission highlights for sure. This week, we were helping Brother Terry chop firewood to get it ready for the winter. A solid couple of hours splitting wood and only a couple bruises all around made for a successful day haha.
I learned a powerful lesson this week 9f always being prepared. On Tuesday we had a lesson with Brenda. Before the lesson, we got caught up at a service project so we were rushing to get to Brenda's house on time. When we got to her house we realized we hadn't done any planning for her lesson. This is a very scary feeling when you realize you have failed to prepare. Sister Christman and I said a prayer and asked for Heavenly Father to forgive us and allow the Spirit to still lead the lesson. Well, God's grace is so good because even with our lack of planning we had an awesome lesson with Brenda. The Spirit definitely took over and the lesson went very well, but we learned a powerful lesson about the importance of preparedness.
On that note, I want to relate this lesson that I learned to one of President Nelson's talks this last conference. In his talked he spoke about the work being done to the Salt Lake Temple and then shared this quote, "My dear brothers and sisters, when renovations on the Salt Lake Temple are completed, there will be no safer place during an earthquake in the Salt Lake Valley than inside that temple.". I loved that quote and the lesson within it. Currently the Salt Lake temple is being "prepared" to last through the Millennium. I want to echo the invitation of our Prophet and invite y'all to "prepare" your foundations to last through the Millennium as well. We know of the vital importance of daily preparation just as I know of the vital importance of lesson planning. My invitation this week is for all of us to recommit to preparing our foundations for the storms that we will experience as we near the second coming of the Savior.
Alright y'all, that's all I've got for this week. I hope y'all have a good week and find ways to strengthen your foundations! I love y'all and I'm so thankful for your support! Love y'all
Hermana Adams
