Missionary Chronicles: Holy McDonald's
Hola a todos!
Alright y'all, just the fact that I just wrote pt.70 on this email has my mind blown...
Anyways, I hope y'all had a fantastic week! We've been super busy here in Georgia and we've been working non-stop, really the only way to do it haha!
This week was just like most first weeks of the transfer, full of meetings and gathering and such, still so awesome though!
We had MLC on Friday and it was amazing! President Harris has placed a huge emphasis on having members more involved in the teaching of our friends. We as an MLC set a new mission standard that a member will be invited to every planned teaching appointment (even if that means having them join through video call). It's a pretty lofty goal, but Hermana Nava and I have already seen it work in our area! On Saturday we had a lesson with Luis and we were able to have a member, Hermana Subieta, join over video call where she wouldn't have otherwise been able to participate! She bore a powerful testimony about the work we do in the temple and it really touched Luis's heart! Involving the members is the way to do missionary work! If you're a member, please help the missionaries. If you're a missionary, please reach out to the members and involve in the work! This is how miracles are brought to pass!
We had a pretty funny experience this week as well. On Friday night we were in the neighborhood of the Rodriguez family and we saw them sitting outside so we went and started talking to them. Now, everyone here knows where I'm from and they all love to "Be Southern" with me haha. The Rodriguez family invited us to go to dinner at this restaurant called "The Juicy Crawfish" to have a shrimp boil! Y'all, that was just a blast!! Good food and better company! Not to mention having an excuse to eat one of the messiest meals known to man haha!
Now, y'all better get ready for this next story...it's still got my mind blown. Well, y'all might remember our friend Jesús (the man that Sister Hammond and I found on Easter). Well, we lost contact with him for a while but recently he reached back put and said he wanted to start meeting with us again. We had an awesome lesson with him last week where he told us that he wanted to change his life, and that he was gonna do it before we got transfered. This was kind of a shock to us but we told him we'd help him get there! This past Tuesday we had a lesson with him at 8:30pm at a local McDonald's lol. The man doesn't get off work till 8pm so we have to make the most of the situation lol. We taught Jesús the Plan of Salvation and they absolutely loved it! He loved the idea that even he has the potential to return to God. After we taught the about the Three Kingdoms of Glory he stopped us. He basically said, "so y'all are telling me that I need to be baptized to live with God" we told him yes and Jesús said, "Alright, when am I getting baptized?". We put this man on date right there in the McDonald's!! He'll be baptized on July 10th!! We are so excited for him and for what his future holds. The one challenge we have with Jesús is that his work schedule makes it pretty impossible for him to get to church. We're trying to encourage him to find a way to change his schedule or take Sundays off. If y'all could do me a favor and keep him in your prayers about that I'd really appreciate it!
I guess the biggest lesson learned from that experience is that powerful spiritual experiences can occur anywhere! I've seen it time and time again on my mission! From trailer parks, to churches, to McDonald's! We truly can find the Lord anywhere if we're in a place to recognize and feel his spirit!
Well y'all, that's all I've got for this week! I hope this upcoming week is a great one for y'all! Remeber to give the Lord his time each day! Be in your scriptures and you'll be surprised what he'll teach y'all! Love y'all!
